about

Cheryl Chaddick, artistic director and choreographer, presented work in the Bay Area from 1985 to 2006. Her style, technique, and personal training have been strongly influenced by fifteen years of Graham, twelve years of Limon, and ten years of classical ballet. Born and raised in Texas, she started dancing early and continued throughout her adolescent years, graduating cum laude with a BFA from Southern Methodist University. She has danced professionally with Repertory Dance Company of the Southwest, Eugene Ballet, San Francisco Moving Company (currently known as Della Davidson Company) and Zaccho Dance Theater (with whom she toured Europe). After moving to the Bay Area in 1979, Ms Chaddick performed in works by Anna Sokolow, Bertram Ross, Jennifer Muller, Della Davidson, Joanna Haigood, Deborah Slater, Lory Wilson and Rhonda Martin. She founded her own company in 1985, creating original and engaging work since that time.

Deeply committed to the dance community, Ms Chaddick was also one of the leading contemporary dance teachers in San Francisco for over 20 years. She taught at many Bay Area studios including Footwork, Brady Street, ODC and was on the faculty of San Francisco Dance Center. She has taught for the Dance and Theater Department at UC Berkeley, Alonzo King's LINES Ballet's Pre-Professional Summer program, as well as The San Francisco Conservatory of Dance and for more than 7 years she has been commissioned as a teacher and choreographer for San Francisco's School of the Arts, helping to train the next generation of young artists.

In 2007 she moved back to her native Texas, drawn to Austin with its vibrant and growing art scene, and drawn to the people of Texas. To mark a new beginning in her artistic career, she formed Chaddick Dance Theater. Her new company debuted in 2008 at the Austin Ventures Studio Theater and included the premieres of three works that were created in her new home.

As a choreographer, Ms. Chaddick is committed to a diverse repertoire that consistently excites audiences with fresh movement and themes that explore our everyday lives. Through her work she invites us to reflect on our common humanity and intrinsic connection.
